What We Do

In February 2006 we opened the Talbot Centre at Godavari, a beautiful scenic area 13 km from Kathmandu. Since opening we have cared for 51 children, some have since been reunited with their families and we presently have 10 resident children.

The Talbot Centre is managed by our founder/director; Sioux Talbot with the help of Nepali staff; a house manager and his wife, housemother/cook, deputy housemother, an admin assistant and a part-time tutor to help with homework and study.

Children are referred to us by government bodies, NGO’s and concerned citizens. Due to financial restraints and limited space we frequently have to refuse requests to admit children.

Our Director: Sioux Tablot

Sioux first visited Nepal in 2002 to take part in a sponsored trek for the charity Scope.
Due to ill health she was unable to complete the trek but during her stay in Kathmandu she was so moved by the plight of the street children, she vowed to return to Nepal to help them

Sioux studied and completed a TEFL course in June 2002 and returned to Nepal in September 2003 where she taught English to some of the children and assisted with art at a large orphanage in Kathmandu for two months.

It was then that the idea of starting a charity to help the children of Nepal was born and on her return to the UK Sioux contacted her local newspaper to appeal for like-minded people to help.

Our Aims

The aims of The Talbot Foundation can be summarised as follows:

  • To found children's centres, the first to be in Kathmandu,
that will reduce the hardship of young people under the
    age of 18 years
  • Promote health and welfare
  • Offer informal education and educational activities
  • Promote child participation and socialisation
  • Seek out and address new areas of need

The Talbot Foundation is maintained entirely by voluntary contributions. Details of how to sponsor a child are now online. Please take a look at our 'Sponsor' page for details!
